Bolesław Szabelski (1896-1979) was a Polish composer, organist and teacher. He studied with Karol Szymanowski and later became an influential professor in Katowice.

His works include symphonies, orchestral pieces, organ music, chamber works and choral music. His music appears in the Pristine catalogue through Stokowski’s Chicago repertory.

Szabelski’s style moved from late Romantic and neoclassical foundations toward a more modern language, while retaining strong structural discipline. Rhythm, mass and sonority are important features of his writing.

Though a specialist name internationally, he occupies an important place in Polish twentieth-century music. Szabelski’s work has the weight of architecture built under changing skies.
