Ivan Petrov (1920-2003) was a Russian bass, one of the important Soviet opera singers of the twentieth century. He was closely associated with the Bolshoi Theatre.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin under Boris Khaikin, with Galina Vishnevskaya and Eugene Belov.

Petrov’s singing brought deep tone, authority and idiomatic style to Russian opera, where character and vocal weight often carry the emotional ground of the drama.

His page is justified by stature and repertory context. Petrov gives the Onegin shelf a properly resonant Russian bass foundation.
