Ferenc Vecsey (1893-1935) was a Hungarian violinist and composer, famous as a child prodigy and later as an international virtuoso. He studied with Jenő Hubay and Joseph Joachim.

Vecsey wrote and arranged short violin pieces, including works that entered the recital and encore repertory. His music appears in Pristine’s historic violin cataloguing alongside other performer-composers.

His style is lyrical, polished and idiomatic for the violin, shaped by the needs of expressive display. It belongs to the late Romantic virtuoso tradition.

Vecsey’s early fame was immense, though his name is now less widely remembered. His pieces preserve the sound-world of the old violin platform: elegant, singing and faintly perfumed.
