Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936) was a Russian composer, conductor and teacher. As an artist in the Pristine catalogue he appears conducting his own music, a valuable document of composer-led performance in the early recording era.

Glazunov was director of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and a central figure in Russian musical life between the nationalist school and the twentieth century. His conducting recordings preserve direct contact with that tradition.

As a conductor he represents an older, composer-centred musical authority rather than the later podium star system. The value lies partly in hearing how his own orchestral world moved under his hand.
