Julius Baker (1915-2003) was an American flautist, one of the leading orchestral and solo flute players of the twentieth century. He served in major orchestras and became an influential teacher.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Fritz Reiner rarities with the RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra and related forces.

Baker’s playing was admired for elegance, clarity and tonal beauty. In orchestral recordings, a great flautist can make even a brief line glow with unmistakable profile.

His page is justified by musical stature. Baker brings a bright American flute line to the Reiner shelf.
