Annie Fischer (1914-1995) was a Hungarian pianist, one of the most individual keyboard artists of the twentieth century. Born in Budapest, she won the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in 1933 and built a career of exceptional intensity.

Fischer was especially admired in Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Bartók. In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Beethoven with Ferenc Fricsay, Géza Anda, Pierre Fournier and Wolfgang Schneiderhan.

Her playing combined fire, concentration and a searching inwardness. She was not a pianist of glossy perfection, but of risk, character and musical truth under pressure.

Her reputation has grown steadily among collectors and pianists. Annie Fischer’s recordings have the feeling of a door opening onto a room where the air is suddenly charged.
