Bernard Ładysz (1922-2020) was a Polish bass-baritone, active in opera, concert music and film. He sang with major Polish companies and appeared internationally, becoming one of the notable Polish voices of his generation.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with Maria Callas, Ferruccio Tagliavini and Tullio Serafin.

Ładysz’s singing was dark, firm and theatrical, suited to the bass and bass-baritone repertory where presence must be felt immediately. He brought weight to ensemble structures without overbalancing them.

His catalogue role here is not large, but his wider career justifies a proper note. Ładysz was more than a supporting name in a famous Callas cast list.
