Elsie Griffin (1895-1989) was an English soprano, one of the celebrated D’Oyly Carte Opera Company artists. She became closely associated with Gilbert and Sullivan repertory during the interwar years.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance, preserving the Savoy opera tradition in early recordings.

Griffin’s singing combined clarity, charm and crisp theatrical style. Gilbert and Sullivan need voices that can smile through the words without smudging the music.
