Dora Labbette (1898-1984) was an English soprano, admired in opera and concert music between the wars. She also sang for a time under the name Lisa Perli.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Beecham’s early recording of Handel’s Messiah, alongside Muriel Brunskill, Hubert Eisdell and Harold Williams.

Labbette’s singing belonged to the British vocal tradition of the 1920s and 1930s: clear, stylish and grounded in oratorio and opera alike. Her voice brings a period colour to early Handel recording.

Her page is justified by historical interest and a secure place in one of Pristine’s important early choral documents.
