Alexander Borovsky (1889-1968) was a Russian-born pianist who made an international career in Europe and the United States. He was especially admired for his Bach playing, at a time when large-scale Bach keyboard recording was still comparatively rare.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Bach’s English and French Suites, recordings that preserve his mid-century approach to the keyboard works.

Borovsky’s playing combined clarity, discipline and a firm architectural sense. His Bach is pianistic without being sentimental, shaped by line and proportion rather than decorative fuss.

Though less famous now than some contemporaries, Borovsky was an important pianist and teacher. His recordings offer a valuable view of Bach performance before the later harpsichord revival changed the weather.
