Kieth Engen (1925-2004), more commonly Keith Engen, was an American-born bass who worked extensively in Europe, especially in German-language opera and concert repertory.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears under the catalogue spelling “Kieth” in Karl Richter’s 1958 Bach St Matthew Passion.

Engen’s singing brought the firm bass foundation required by Bach’s sacred structures, where authority and restraint must work together.
