Audrey Mildmay (1900-1953) was an English soprano, closely associated with the early Glyndebourne Festival. She married John Christie, Glyndebourne’s founder, and was an important part of the festival’s formative musical life.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Fritz Busch’s pioneering Glyndebourne Le nozze di Figaro, one of the landmark Mozart opera recordings of the 1930s.

Mildmay’s singing was light, stylish and theatrically alert, well suited to the intimate Mozartian values Glyndebourne sought to cultivate. Her importance lies in both performance and institution-building context.

She stands near the beginning of the Glyndebourne story, not as a footnote but as one of its human catalysts. Her recordings preserve a voice from the festival’s first bright chapter.
