Peter Dawson (1882-1961) was an Australian bass-baritone, one of the most famous recording singers of the acoustic and early electrical eras. His enormous discography made him a household name for several generations.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Gilbert and Sullivan recordings connected with Malcolm Sargent and the D’Oyly Carte tradition.

Dawson’s singing combined firm tone, clear diction and an easy command of popular and classical vocal repertory. He understood the gramophone as a platform, not merely a funnel.
