Hermann Prey (1929-1998) was a German baritone, one of the most beloved singers of the post-war era. He was admired in Mozart, Lieder, opera and operetta.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under Rudolf Kempe, alongside Elisabeth Grümmer, Ferdinand Frantz and Gottlob Frick.

Prey’s singing combined warmth, verbal ease and a natural humanity that made even formal repertory feel conversational. He had charm without triviality.

His page is essential despite a compact catalogue footprint. Prey’s baritone smiles, but it also listens.
