Anthony Lewis (1915-1983) was a British conductor, musicologist and editor, especially important in Baroque and early music. He worked as both scholar and performer, helping to reshape how older repertory was understood and presented.

Lewis was associated with editions and performances of Purcell, Handel and other early English music. In the Pristine catalogue he appears with Alfred Deller in Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art.

His importance lies in the bridge between scholarship and performance. He belonged to the generation that moved early music from library shelves toward a more informed performing life.
