Denis Wick (1931-2023) was an English trombonist, teacher and brass specialist, long associated with the London Symphony Orchestra. He became one of the most respected British brass players of his generation.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Horenstein’s Mahler Third Symphony, where the trombone writing forms part of the work’s vast orchestral landscape.

Wick’s importance lies in orchestral brass playing, teaching and the wider culture of brass performance. Great orchestral brass work often stands out only when it fails, which makes its mastery easy to underestimate.

His page gives proper recognition to a player whose influence extended well beyond a single recording. Wick helped give British trombone playing its modern backbone.
