Jean Fournet (1913-2008) was a French conductor, admired in French repertory and especially Debussy. He conducted widely in Europe, the Netherlands and Japan.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Debussy orchestral music alongside Monteux, Koussevitzky and Beecham in a wide-ranging Debussy programme.

Fournet’s conducting was clear, refined and idiomatic, with a natural sense of French orchestral colour and proportion.

His page is justified by career stature and repertory fit. Fournet gives the Debussy shelf a clean French line and a wash of precise colour.
