Conrad Hansen (1906-2002) was a German pianist, admired in Beethoven and the central Austro-German repertory. He studied with Edwin Fischer and became an important concert and recording artist in Germany.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Beethoven with Wilhelm Furtwängler and in Tchaikovsky with Willem Mengelberg, placing him alongside two of the most powerful conductors of the era.

Hansen’s playing was disciplined, strong and architecturally aware, suited to concerto repertory that demands both pianistic command and structural seriousness.

His name may now be mainly a collector’s one, but the recordings give him real weight. Hansen’s pianism stands like a well-built bridge across turbulent orchestral water.
