Claramae Turner (1920-2013) was an American contralto, active in opera, concert music and musical theatre. She sang at the Metropolitan Opera and also appeared in film, including the 1956 screen version of Carousel.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and Toscanini’s Verdi Un ballo in maschera.

Turner’s voice was rich, steady and communicative, suited to contralto and mezzo roles where depth and clarity matter. She brought character as well as tone.
