Julian Sitkovetsky (1925-1958) was a Soviet violinist, one of the most gifted violinists of his generation. His career was cut short by illness, but his surviving recordings have remained highly prized.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Sibelius and Paganini violin concertos with Nikolai Anosov, Mark Pavelman and Czech and Moscow orchestral forces.

Sitkovetsky’s playing combined brilliance, intensity and a singing line of exceptional concentration. He could make virtuosity sound urgent rather than decorative.

His page is essential despite the small catalogue footprint. Sitkovetsky’s violin burns fast, bright and unsettlingly young.
