Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) was an English composer, conductor and pianist, and one of the central musical figures of the twentieth century. As an artist in the Pristine catalogue he appears conducting and performing his own music.

Britten’s recorded legacy as performer is especially valuable because it documents his preferred pacing, texture and dramatic balance in works such as the War Requiem, Nocturne and Our Hunting Fathers.

His conducting was precise, transparent and sharply aware of words and theatre. He tended to favour clean textures and dramatic purpose over generalized warmth.
