Basil Cameron (1884-1975) was an English conductor, active in concert and recording life across the first half of the twentieth century. He worked with major British orchestras and became a familiar figure in the studio.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears with Benno Moiseiwitsch in Rachmaninov, alongside Malcolm Sargent and Walter Goehr in a set of historic concerto recordings.

Cameron’s conducting was practical, clear and supportive, the kind of podium work needed when a soloist and large Romantic score must be kept in firm proportion. He belonged to the reliable professional backbone of British musical life.
