George Enescu (1881-1955) was a Romanian composer, violinist, conductor, pianist and teacher, one of the most complete musicians of the twentieth century. As an artist, he was admired for depth, authority and breadth of musical understanding.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears conducting Mozart with Yehudi Menuhin, a particularly apt pairing given Enescu’s importance as Menuhin’s teacher and mentor.

Enescu’s performing musicianship was rooted in structural insight and a deeply organic sense of phrase. He brought the composer’s mind and the violinist’s ear into the same room.

His page is justified as a performer as well as composer. Enescu was not simply many things; he was many things unusually well.
