Boris Khaikin (1904-1978) was a Soviet conductor, especially associated with opera. He worked with major Russian institutions including the Bolshoi Theatre and conducted important recordings of Russian repertory.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, with a cast including Galina Vishnevskaya, Sergei Lemeshev and Ivan Petrov.

Khaikin’s conducting was theatrical, singer-conscious and firmly rooted in Russian operatic practice. He understood the rubato, speech rhythm and emotional breadth needed in Tchaikovsky’s stage world.

His recordings are valuable documents of Soviet opera at a high level. Khaikin’s page belongs here because he helps anchor one of the central Russian operatic traditions on disc.
