Ossip Gabrilowitsch was a Russian-born pianist and conductor, later active in the United States. He became music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and was an important figure in American orchestral life.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in the complete Detroit Symphony recordings from 1925 to 1928, coupled with Alfred Hertz’s San Francisco recordings.

Gabrilowitsch’s conducting preserves an early chapter in American orchestral recording, when regional orchestras were beginning to leave substantial recorded footprints.
