Ira Malaniuk
Ira Malaniuk (1919-2009) was an Austrian mezzo-soprano and contralto, admired in Wagner, Strauss and German repertory. She was a major post-war singer at Bayreuth and in Vienna.
In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Furtwängler’s 1953 Rome Ring cycle and in Wagner with Karajan at Bayreuth.
Malaniuk’s singing combined depth, steadiness and dramatic intelligence, bringing dark colour and firm line to Wagner’s lower female roles...
