Joseph Schuster (1903-1969) was a cellist, born in Constantinople and later active in Europe and the United States. He served as principal cellist of major orchestras and built a distinguished solo career.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Bernstein’s 1943 debut programme with the Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra of New York.

Schuster’s playing brought the depth, focus and old-world training of a leading orchestral cellist into a major American broadcast context.
