John Coltrane (1926-1967) was an American saxophonist and composer, one of the central figures in modern jazz. His work reshaped improvisation, harmony and spiritual ambition in jazz after bebop.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears with the Miles Davis Quintet, part of the early story of one of the most consequential small groups in jazz history.

Coltrane’s playing moved from fierce harmonic exploration toward a language of incantation and searching intensity. His sound became a kind of musical weather system, urgent and unmistakable.

His influence is vast. Coltrane made the saxophone sound like inquiry itself: restless, luminous and impossible to file away.
