Bernard Stevens (1916-1983) was a British composer and teacher, represented in the Pristine catalogue by broadcasts of his two symphonies and other works. He studied at the Royal College of Music and became active in post-war British musical life.

His works include symphonies, concertos, chamber music, songs and orchestral pieces. The First Symphony, sometimes associated with the wartime and liberation period, helped establish his reputation.

Stevens’s music is serious, tightly constructed and expressive, rooted in tonal discipline while engaging with modern pressures. It often carries a strong moral and dramatic charge.
