Aleksander Zarzycki (1834-1895) was a Polish pianist, composer and conductor. Born in Lwów, he became active in Warsaw and helped shape Polish musical life in the later nineteenth century.

His works include piano pieces, songs, orchestral music and violin works. His Mazurka and other short pieces entered the violin and salon repertory.

Zarzycki’s music is lyrical, elegant and strongly connected to Polish dance character. It belongs to the Romantic miniature tradition, where national style and virtuoso charm meet.

Though now a modest name internationally, Zarzycki remains part of the Polish Romantic landscape around Chopin’s long shadow. His music has the lift of a dance remembered in polished miniature.
