Ludwig Suthaus
Ludwig Suthaus (1906-1971) was a German heldentenor, especially associated with Wagner. He sang at Bayreuth and in major German houses during the post-war period.
In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Furtwängler’s Rome Ring cycle and Knappertsbusch’s 1956 Bayreuth Ring.
Suthaus’s singing brought the stamina, strength and darkened heroic tone required by Wagner’s great tenor roles.
