Dinu Lipatti (1917-1950) was a Romanian pianist, one of the most revered keyboard artists of the twentieth century despite his tragically short life. His recordings are few, but their reputation is immense.

Lipatti was especially admired in Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann and Ravel. In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Chopin’s First Piano Concerto and Third Sonata.

His playing combined purity, refinement and a remarkable sense of inward poise. Nothing seems forced; every phrase appears to have found its natural breath.

Lipatti’s legacy is one of rare concentration and grace. His recordings are small rooms with very high ceilings.
