Frequently Asked Questions
Start here for quick answers about ordering, downloads, CDs, accounts, subscriptions and finding music. Where a fuller guide already exists, the answer points you straight to it.
Downloads and audio formats
Where are my downloads?
Sign in using the email address used for the purchase, then open My Downloads. This opens your My Music library, where the Downloads tab contains the albums attached to your account. It is separate from the ordinary order-history list.
For illustrated instructions, see Finding your downloads.
Which download format should I choose?
MP3 is the simplest choice and offers the widest compatibility. 16-bit FLAC is lossless CD quality. 24-bit FLAC offers the highest resolution and is best suited to compatible hi-fi equipment and music software.
The Beginner's Guide to Downloading explains the differences in more detail.
How quickly can I access a download purchase?
Downloads are normally added to your account as soon as checkout is completed. Sign in and open My Downloads.
Can I download a purchase again?
Yes. Your purchased albums remain available through My Downloads, so you can download them again when required.
Why has my album downloaded as a ZIP file?
A ZIP file keeps the album tracks, artwork and supporting files together in one download. After downloading it, extract or unzip the folder before adding the music to your player or library.
Why will my FLAC files not play?
FLAC is widely supported, but some music programs need a little preparation. See the dedicated guides for FLAC on Windows and FLAC on Mac.
Can I burn my download to an audio CD?
Yes. Use 16-bit FLAC or MP3 files to create a standard audio CD. A 24-bit FLAC download is intended for high-resolution playback and is not designed for direct audio-CD burning.
Ordering CDs
How do I order a CD instead of a download?
On an album page, choose the Buy on CD tab rather than the Download tab, select the required CD option, and add it to your cart. The visual ordering guide walks through the process.
Does a CD purchase include a download?
Yes. Pristine CD purchases include a complimentary MP3 download, which is added to your account after checkout.
When will my CDs be dispatched?
Pristine CDs are made to order and are normally dispatched within 3 to 5 working days.
Is there special ordering advice for customers in the USA?
For the lowest CD shipping rate, customers in the USA are advised to order one album at a time, with up to 3 CDs in that album order.
What should I do if a CD is damaged or has not arrived?
Email cdsupport@pristineclassical.com with your order number, the email address used for the order, your delivery country and a brief description of the problem.
Can I browse or order from a printable catalogue?
Yes. Visit the Catalogue and Order Form page for the current printable catalogue and ordering information.
Accounts and subscriptions
How do I sign in to my account?
Open My Account, enter the email address connected to your purchases, and follow the verification-code instructions sent to that address. The current sign-in system uses a code rather than relying only on an old password.
Why can I not see an older purchase?
Older purchases may be connected to a different email address. Sign in with the address originally used for that order. If your purchases are split across addresses, contact downloadsupport@pristineclassical.com.
What is Pristine Streaming?
Pristine Streaming is the online listening service for the Pristine catalogue. It works through a web browser on computers, tablets and phones, and includes subscriber-only Pristine Exclusives. See Pristine Streaming for details.
What is the Pristine Audio Digital Music Collection?
The Digital Music Collection is the complete Pristine archive, carefully organised and supplied on a solid-state USB drive in MP3, FLAC, or combined FLAC and MP3 editions. It is DRM-free and yours to keep.
See the full Digital Music Collection page, including its FAQ for New Owners and User Guide.
How do Digital Music Collection updates work?
Update subscriptions are available to verified Digital Music Collection owners. New releases added through Add to my account appear in My Downloads rather than in the ordinary order-history list. See Subscriptions for the available options.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Sign in, open My Account, choose My Subscriptions, then use Manage Subscription History. Further guidance is on the Subscriptions page.
Finding and saving music
What is the best way to search the catalogue?
Search by composer, performer, conductor, work, ensemble, keyword or catalogue number. An exact catalogue number is usually the quickest route to a particular release. If a broad search returns too much, try a surname or fewer words.
See Searching the site for more tips.
Can I browse instead of searching?
Yes. Use the Find Music menu to browse the catalogue by artist, composer or ensemble.
How does the wishlist work?
Use the heart control on a product page to save an album. The heart icon in the site header opens your wishlist, where saved releases can be revisited later.
Support, newsletters and policies
How do I contact Pristine?
For downloads, accounts and subscriptions, email downloadsupport@pristineclassical.com. For CDs and shipping, email cdsupport@pristineclassical.com.
Please include your order number, the email address used for the purchase and a short description of the problem. More details are on the Help & Support page.
Why am I asked to waive my right of withdrawal for a download?
Digital purchases can be supplied immediately. Before access begins, checkout may ask you to acknowledge that your right of withdrawal ends once the download or digital access has started.
How do I stop receiving newsletters?
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any Pristine newsletter. Newsletter subscriptions are managed separately from your website account.
Where can I read the privacy policy and terms?
See the Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
