Eunice Alberts (1908-2008) was an American contralto and mezzo-soprano, active in concert, opera and broadcast repertory. She sang with major American orchestras and conductors.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Koussevitzky’s 1947 Beethoven Ninth Symphony with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Alberts’s singing, as represented here, brings the dark lower-female colour needed for Beethoven’s choral-symphonic writing. The part requires gravity, blend and stamina in equal measure.

Her page is modest but justified by the performance and the calibre of the musical company. Alberts gives the Beethoven shelf a firm American contralto line.
