Sir Dan Godfrey (1868-1939) was an English conductor, best remembered for building the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra into an important British ensemble. He was one of the key figures in provincial orchestral life before the Second World War.

Godfrey’s importance lies in institution-building as well as interpretation. He helped show that serious orchestral culture did not need to be confined to London.
