J. Strauss is a catalogue form used for music by Johann Strauss II and the Strauss family tradition. The best-known bearer of the name is Johann Strauss II (1825-1899), the Viennese composer known as the “Waltz King.”

Strauss wrote waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, marches and operettas. The Blue Danube, Tales from the Vienna Woods, Emperor Waltz and Die Fledermaus are among the enduring landmarks of Viennese light music.

The Strauss style is elegant, buoyant and rhythmically irresistible, with orchestration that can make a dance floor feel like a civic institution. Beneath the charm lies exact control of pacing and expectation.

In historic catalogues, initials and surname forms can vary, so this entry is deliberately broad. The music itself remains unmistakable: Vienna spinning, smiling and counting perfectly under its breath.
