Alexander Schneider (1908-1993) was a Lithuanian-born American violinist, conductor and musical organiser. He was a member of the Budapest Quartet and became one of the great chamber-music personalities of the twentieth century.

Schneider was closely associated with Pablo Casals, the Marlboro Festival and many chamber-music projects. In the Pristine catalogue he appears in connection with Casals and the Prades musical circle.

His musicianship was energetic, generous and deeply collaborative. He had the rare gift of making chamber music feel both disciplined and socially alive.

Schneider’s importance extends beyond violin playing into musical culture-building. He was one of those artists who did not merely perform music, but kept rooms full of it.
