Bonaldo Giaiotti (1932-2018) was an Italian bass, active internationally in opera for several decades. He sang at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera and other major houses.

His repertory included Verdi, Puccini, bel canto and French opera. In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Puccini and Ponchielli recordings with major Italian and international casts.

Giaiotti’s singing was firm, resonant and dependable, the kind of bass presence that gives Italian opera its lower pillars. He brought weight without unnecessary bluster.

He may not be the first bass name collectors reach for, but his long career and repeated catalogue presence justify a proper note. Giaiotti was a solid stone in the Italian operatic arch.
