Red Garland was an American jazz pianist, best known as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet during the 1950s. His playing helped define the group’s sound alongside John Coltrane, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Miles Davis Quintet recordings from 1955 and 1956.

Garland’s style combined relaxed swing, crisp block chords and a buoyant rhythmic touch, giving the rhythm section elegance without losing propulsion.

His page is essential for the jazz strand. Garland gives the catalogue a piano grin: cool, clean and walking on springs.
