Anthony Pini (1902-1989) was a British cellist, active as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral principal. He was one of the respected British string players of the mid-twentieth century.

Pini played with leading ensembles and appears in the Pristine catalogue in Dvořák’s Dumky Trio and in Brahms with the Pro Arte Quartet. His work sits squarely in the British chamber-music tradition.

His playing was valued for firm tone, stylistic dependability and ensemble intelligence. Cellists in this repertory must anchor, sing and negotiate at once.

Pini’s name may not glitter like Casals or Feuermann, but his catalogue presence is solid and musically meaningful. He was one of the strong table-legs of British chamber music.
