Gaspar Cassadó (1897-1966) was a Spanish cellist and composer, one of the notable cello virtuosos of the twentieth century. Born in Barcelona, he studied with Pablo Casals and built an international career.

Cassadó wrote and arranged music for the cello as well as performing widely. In the Pristine catalogue he appears in the Casals circle through chamber and concerto-related recordings.

His playing was expressive, colourful and technically assured, reflecting both Catalan lineage and a virtuoso’s instinct for projection. As a composer he enriched the cello’s own repertory from within.
