Joyce Barker
Joyce Barker (1931-1992) was a South African soprano, active in opera and concert repertory. She sang internationally and became associated with dramatic soprano roles.
In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Mahler and Wagner, including Horenstein’s Mahler Eighth and Covent Garden Wagner under Konwitschny.
Barker’s singing brought the strength, line and projection required by large late-Romantic and Wagnerian contexts.
