Leonid Kogan (1924-1982) was a Soviet violinist, one of the great violin virtuosos of the twentieth century. He was admired for brilliance, precision and a formidable classical command.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in chamber recordings with Mstislav Rostropovich, Emil Gilels, Rudolf Barshai and other major Soviet artists.

Kogan’s playing combined steely focus, tonal intensity and technical fire, making even chamber repertory feel charged with concerto-level voltage.

His page is essential. Kogan brings a violin blade sharpened on Russian steel to the chamber shelf.
