Mischa Elman was a violinist, one of the most famous violin virtuosos of the early twentieth century. His playing was renowned for warmth, sweetness of tone and a deeply personal singing style.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Paganini, with conductors including Désiré Defauw and Lawrance Collingwood.

Elman’s violinism belonged to the golden-age tradition of portamento, expressive individuality and unapologetically beautiful sound.

His page is essential. Elman brings old-world violin velvet, amber varnish and a phrase that leans toward the heart.
