Harriet Cohen (1895-1967) was an English pianist, closely associated with British music of the first half of the twentieth century. Composers including Arnold Bax and Ralph Vaughan Williams admired her, and Bax wrote music for her.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Bax repertory from the English Music Society, preserving a pianist whose influence reached well beyond the length of her recorded legacy.

Cohen’s playing was poetic, clear and strongly identified with the British piano tradition of her generation. She was a musician of personality, advocacy and cultural presence.

Her page deserves a proper note: she was not simply an accompanist or period curiosity, but a central figure in the musical life around Bax, Elgar and their contemporaries.
