Mark Hambourg was a Russian-born British pianist, one of the best-known pianists in Britain during the early twentieth century. He was admired for Romantic flair and virtuoso command.

In the Pristine catalogue he appears in Beethoven and Tchaikovsky concerto recordings with Landon Ronald and Malcolm Sargent.

Hambourg’s playing belonged to an older bravura tradition: big personality, rich tone and a willingness to let the piano stride rather than tiptoe.

His page is justified by historical standing and catalogue context. Hambourg brings Edwardian thunderclouds and concert-hall glamour to the piano shelf.
