Lubka Kolessa (1902-1997) was a Ukrainian-born pianist, admired in Europe and North America as a soloist and teacher. She became associated with the central classical and Romantic repertory.

In the Pristine catalogue she appears in Max Fiedler’s German radio recordings, in repertory by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Schumann and Tchaikovsky.

Kolessa’s playing, as represented here, belongs to a central European pianistic tradition of clarity, discipline and expressive seriousness.

Her page is justified by stature and catalogue context. Kolessa brings a refined pianist’s profile to the Fiedler radio strand.
