HORENSTEIN conducts Mahler & Shostakovich

This week's new release brings together the first two recordings made after the 1920s by Jascha Horenstein, when he conducted the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1952 for Vox Records.

The album features the first LP-era release of Mahler's 9th Symphony, coupled with the first LP-era recording of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony. Both were very well received at the time - "a wonderful achievement" (Mahler) and "An outstanding issue" (Shostakovich) according to The Gramophone, and both sound absolutely stunning in this newly XR-remastered Pristine release.
