CANTELLI at the NBC - his 2nd concert

This week we offer you one of the rarer Cantelli broadcasts, taken from fine transfers of near-mint transcription discs originally cut live in the NBC's studios on the evening of 22 January 1949. It was his second appearance with the orchestra, having been plucked from Italy by Toscanini as his assumed heir.

The program features three works - two from contemporary Italian composers: Giorgio Ghedini's Pezzo concertante and Alfredi Casella's Paganiniana, finished with Tchaikovsky's wonderful Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. All are heard here in fabulous-sounding Ambient Stereo XR remasters from Andrew Rose.
