Markevitch: Russian Music at the Edinburgh Festival, 1962

"Markevitch had established himself as a conductor of notable technical command and musical perception" - Fanfare

The second of three volumes recorded in fine sound by the BBC at the 1962 Edinburgh Festival finds Igor Markevitch and the London Symphony Orchestra conducting Russian music to fabulous effect.

"Igor Markevitch made a specialty of Le sacre du printemps..."

Joined by the celebrated Russian soprano Galina Vishnevskaya, together they brought the house down at the Usher Hall that August day in Edinburgh:

"she's in excellent form, vocalizing every note, even inspiring a spontaneous outburst from the audience after her virtuoso traversal of The Ragamuffin"
